Cherries Service Program
Part of playing for the Cherries includes our efforts to give back in service to others in our local communities. Our goal is to put the muscle of the Cherries organization to good use through service projects and charitable endeavors throughout the year and via multiple, diverse avenues.
Please contact Cherries Founder Jake Kenney ([email protected]) or our Service Project Coordinator Kristy Jewell ([email protected]) if you have an idea for a project you would like to see get off the ground. Our goal is to have one project every month-there are so many great avenues for us to give and we want to make sure our service is spread out to the many great organizations in the Great Lakes region who could use our help.

February Service Project
We have an opportunity as a lacrosse club to help out the homeless population in Detroit. In conjunction with an organization that delivers backpacks in the winter months to the homeless on the side of the streets, Congregation Of Everyone(COE), we are collecting supplies and will be assembling 300 backpacks to be passed out to those who are among our neediest in Detroit. Here are the details:
1. We are aiming for our JC Box session on 2/23 at the JCC as our assembly date. The idea is that as the boys have breaks between their prospective games, they can give some time to organize and assemble the backpacks.
2. We are relying on club wide donations from you and your boys. This can be done in a couple of ways:
a) you can bring any donated items to one of our scheduled practices or games before the 23rd and give to us
b) you can ship them to us via Amazon, etc. PLEASE EMAIL US FOR THE COLLECTION ADDRESS IF YOU STILL HAVE DONATIONS!
It is helpful to us if we have ALL donations by February 21st so that we can fill any “holes" before the 23rd. THANK YOU!!
This is what is needed:
gloves
hats
blankets
socks
underwear
granola bars
goldfish crackers
bottled water
hand/foot warmers
peanut butter jelly snackables
any snacks of substance
We are including a sign up genius link so that you can indicate what you are donating. (Hoping to assist with variety, but again, any and all donations will be put to good use and MUCH APPRECIATED.)

** We are fast tracking 100 backpacks due to the harsh winter weather, and will be assembling/packing those this Sunday at 11:30 after the Youth training at DCD's Fieldhouse.
