Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Cherries mission?
A: For HS it is to help players who want to play beyond HS achieve those goals-through competition, training and attending elite events for exposure and helping/advising with the recruiting process. For Youth it is about developing elite skill sets and providing a platform for them to pursue their passion for high level competition. All decisions are to serve that mission, from what events we attend, how we practice, what we practice, and how we approach helping players achieve their goals.

Q: If I missed both tryout options will I still be able to be evaluated to see if Cherries is a good fit?
A: Yes, You can come to a practice, clinic or camp throughout the year to see if it is a good fit. You can also attend 13 Mile camps/clinics/box nights as well (www.13milelax.com). You can submit film and/or be recommended from a trusted coach. We keep rosters tight so we can add talented, passionate players throughout the year. Contact jake@cherrieslacrosse if you would like to set something up.

Q: My son plays other sports-will he have to give those up to play Cherries?
A: Absolutely NOT! The vast majority of our players are multi sport athletes. All of our coaches were multi sport athletes. We believe playing multiple sports allows for the development of new skills, present new leadership opportunities, and players can get new/different coaching perspectives. College coaches place a high value on multi sport athletes. Our program is designed to be able to get the most out of training, competition and exposure throughout the year without dominating your family's calendar.

Q: How big are your rosters?
A: Typically we carry rosters in the 15-18 range for youth and 20-23 range for HS. For youth we carry smaller rosters by design so we can maximize the amount of reps each player gets in practice and games which speeds development. For HS, rosters are a little bigger as specialization tends to require more players at each position to be competitive out East.

Q: What is included in team fees?
A: Team fees vary by team (based on variable event costs and how many we go to) but they include all tournament fees, practices/training, uniforms, and coaching expenses. Helmets are mandatory and purchased separately. Travel is typically up to each family to arrange.

Q: If I am placed on Great Lakes, will I have the opportunity to eventually make Cherries?
A: Yes! Some of the best players to come through our program started out on our Great Lakes teams. We keep rosters fluid so players who are ascending can have the opportunity to play on the Cherries teams. Throughout the year there will also be combined practices so we can evaluate everyone. We know that player development isn't static and players are always putting in the work to elevate their game.

Q: Are there scholarship/financial aid opportunities?
A: Yes! We know club lacrosse can be expensive on many levels. We are not a bottom line, registration based club. We feel this allows us to make decisions that serve the mission regardless of financial impact. As such, we do not ever want finances to be a deterrent to someone playing in the program and have worked with many families to make sure they can make it work financially. Just ask for help and you will get it.

Q: Are the box teams different than the field teams?
A: Box teams are made up of Cherries/Great Lakes players and select outside players and are invite only. Because the age brackets in box combine 2 grades, our Cherries teams tend to be made up of the older grade Cherries/Great Lakes players and the Great Lakes box teams tend to be made up of younger Cherries and Great Lakes players.
